4G Enhanced Transmission Setup

Overview

4G Enhanced Transmission combines the standard OcuSync RF video transmission with a 4G LTE link, allowing video, RTK differential data, and control commands to be carried over both links simultaneously. When the OcuSync signal is strong, the 4G link is maintained as a standby connection without active data transmission, preserving low-latency performance and minimizing data usage. When OcuSync becomes weak, blocked, or operates at long range, the 4G link automatically takes over to keep the mission running without triggering a Failsafe Return-to-Home (RTH).

4G Enhanced Transmission does not replace the OcuSync RF link. Both links run in parallel when enabled, with 4G acting as a redundant fallback only.

Transmission Behavior by Condition

Condition
OcuSync RF Link
4G Link
Outcome

Enhanced Transmission ON

Strong

Standby

OcuSync handles all video, RTK, and control data. 4G link stays connected without active data transmission. Mission continues uninterrupted.

Enhanced Transmission ON, RF weak or interrupted

Weak / Lost

Active

4G link automatically activates and takes over video, RTK, and control data. Drone seamlessly continues the mission. Failsafe RTH is not triggered.

Enhanced Transmission OFF

Active

Inactive

OcuSync RF link only. No 4G fallback available if the RF link degrades.

Enhanced Transmission OFF, RF lost

Lost

Inactive

Drone triggers the signal-loss action configured by the user during mission creation (e.g., Return-to-Home, Hover, or Land). For GTL, RTH is triggered.

Prerequisites

Before starting, ensure you have the following:

  • DJI 4G Dongles — one for the Dock and one for the Drone. Dock 1/Dock 2 and Dock 3 use different dongles; they are not interchangeable.

  • Physical SIM cards — a physical SIM is recommended over eSIM for each dongle.

  • APN credentials — obtain the APN name, and username/password (if required) from your SIM card provider before setup.

  • Windows PC — required for the one-time dongle driver installation.

  • Recommended firmware — confirm both the Dock and Drone are on the latest recommended firmware using Flytbase Dashboard.

Do not proceed without confirmed APN credentials from your carrier. An incorrect or missing APN will prevent the dongle from establishing a data connection.

How to Enable Enhanced Transmission?

The end-to-end procedure has three parts:

  1. Perform the on-device setup and initialization on the RC.

  2. Turn on the Toggle for 4G Enhanced Mode in Device Settings under Drone Control on Flytbase Dashboard.

  3. Verify the Connection.

Step 1: Dongle SIM Setup

This is a one-time process performed on a Windows PC for each individual dongle before installation in the field.

1.1 Insert the SIM Card

Insert the physical SIM card into the dongle's SIM slot.

1.2 Install the Dongle Driver

  • Download the dongle driver package from the DJI-provided link.

If the driver is not available, kindly reach out to support@flytbase.com

  • Run setup.exe to install the driver. Follow the on-screen instructions.

The driver installation UI may appear in Mandarin Chinese. Use Google Lens or a similar translation tool to navigate the prompts.

1.3 Test Connectivity

  • Disconnect the PC from all internet sources (Wi-Fi and Ethernet).

  • Plug in the dongle (with SIM inserted) and wait approximately 20 seconds for the green LED to turn on.

  • Check whether internet is accessible through the dongle.

    • If accessible — the dongle is ready. Proceed directly to Step 2.

    • If not accessible — the APN needs to be configured manually. Continue to Step 1.4.

1.4 Configure APN Manually (if required)

  • Run IG830apnsetting.exe from the downloaded package.

  • The UI will appear in Mandarin Chinese — use a translation tool as needed.

  • Enter the APN name, and username/password if required by your carrier. These fields may be left blank if your carrier does not specify them.

  • Click the single button in the dialog to apply the settings. A terminal-style confirmation window will appear indicating success.

  • Unplug the dongle, wait a few seconds, then replug it. Wait approximately 20 seconds for the green LED.

  • Re-check internet connectivity through the dongle.

This APN configuration process must be repeated individually for each dongle. Settings are stored per device and are not shared.

Step 2: Hardware Installation

2.1 Verify Controller Binding

Before inserting the dongles, confirm that:

  • The Dock is bound as Controller A and the RC is bound as Controller B to the drone.

2.2 Insert the Dongles

Insert the configured dongles into the dedicated 4G dongle sockets on both the Dock and the Drone, then power on both devices.

  • DJI Dock / Dock 2 & Dock3 — insert the dock's dongle into the dedicated 4G socket on the Dock chassis. Refer to the DJI Documentation for the exact socket location on your model.

  • Drone — insert the drone's dongle into the dedicated 4G socket on the aircraft body. Refer to the relevant DJI aircraft documentation for the exact socket location.

Each dongle socket is model-specific. A Dock 1 dongle cannot be used in a Dock 2/Dock 3, and vice versa.

Step 3: On-Device Setup

On-device setup from the RC is required only during the first-time initialization of Enhanced Transmission. After the service is initialized successfully and both the Dock and Aircraft show Connected, 4G Enhanced Mode can be managed directly from the FlytBase dashboard by enabling or disabling Enable 4G Enhanced Mode.

To perform the on-device setup, follow these steps:

  1. Reset Connections: Ensure the RC is not connected directly to the aircraft, and no stale connections are active.

  2. Power ON System: Power on the devices in the following order — Dock → Aircraft → RC. Confirm a live video feed is available.

  3. Connect Devices: Connect the Dock to the Aircraft, then connect the RC to the Dock. Verify that the RC appears as Controller B and the Dock appears as Controller A.

  4. Open DJI Enterprise App: On the RC, open the DJI Enterprise App. Select Dock (Controller A) and tap the Spanner icon at the bottom-right.

  5. Navigate to Enhanced Transmission Settings.

  6. Trigger Initialization (critical step):

    • If the toggle is already ON: turn it OFF, wait 10 seconds, turn it ON again, allow sufficient time for the connection to establish, and do not exit the page immediately.

    • If the toggle is OFF: turn it ON. If a pop-up appears stating "Set first and then connect to service", tap Change Settings, navigate back, then re-enter Enhanced Transmission Settings.

  7. Enable Enhanced Transmission Service: Toggle Enhanced Transmission Service to ON and wait 1–2 seconds.

  8. Verify in DJI Pilot App: Open the DJI Pilot App, enter Camera / Live View, tap the • • • menu (top-right), and open Enhanced Transmission Settings.

  9. Validate Status: Confirm that both Dock and Aircraft show Connected.

  10. You can see the 4G icon in the top-right corner, indicating that the 4G connection is active.

Enhanced Transmission Settings: Connected status

The initialization sequence in Step 6 is critical to initialise the Enhanced Transmission service. Do not skip or rush this process. DJI has confirmed that incorrect timing or sequence may prevent activation.

Enable 4G Enhanced Mode from Flytbase Dashboard

3.1 Confirm LTE Status

Before enabling, verify that the connection statuses are showing correctly on the Dashboard:

  • Open the FlytBase Dashboard and navigate to the relevant drone's device card.

  • Confirm that both Dock LTE and Aircraft LTE show a Configured status.

  • Confirm that Server Connection shows as Connected.

Do not enable 4G Enhanced Mode if Dock LTE or Aircraft LTE status is not showing as Configured. This indicates the dongle or SIM is not correctly set up. Revisit Step 1 to troubleshoot.

3.2 Enable the Toggle

  • Turn on the Toggle for 4G Enhanced Mode in Device Settings under Drone Control.

  • The system will initialise 4G as a simultaneous link alongside the existing RF connection.
